Arecaceae. Introduced, natively found in tropical/ subtropical regions of Africa and southwest Asia. Popularly propagated throughout the world in farms, producing its date fruits which are typically eaten dried. No IUCN status available.
Leaves are compound, large, and pinnately divided with approximately 150 linear-lanceolate leaflets.
Flowers are small, pale yellow and arranged in a spadix inflorescence within a spathe.
