Ulu
Artocarpus altilis

Moraceae. Native, a canoe plant, and holds important cultural significance as the Hawaiian god Kū once took the form of an ‘Ulu tree, to feed his family and the Hawaiian people during a time of famine. Also distributed from Southeast Asia through the Pacific. Photos provided are all taken from ‘Ulutopia: a grove of breadfruit trees located at Kauai Community College.
Leaves: large, simple, with pinnate lobe divisions.
Flowers: male flowers are a spongy long yellowy green inflorescence, while female flowers are a round prickly green inflorescence.
